PREVIEW EDITION | THE GREAT ADVENTURE | MAY 1997 |
To hear Chagdud Rinpoche speak is to realize that his speech is a mudra, or gesture. Few can understand his broken English, (which is then interpreted by his wife), but occasionally as he lectures, a word or phrase will come out with such bell ringing clarity and precision as to remind one that, indeed, his comprehension of this language is more than complete. He speaks in an outline or encoded format. He describes the stages of death and the entry into the between lives Bardo spaces as things that are, simply, known, and can be prepared for in this life. Indeed, this life "state," along with the states of sleep, and of dreaming, may be seen as another aspect of the Bardo. The illusory quality of what arises in life is more apparent in this light, and the practice of bringing the mind back to the remembrance of this impermanence will allow recognition of the moment of unimpeded awareness at the time of death.
