So another question to work with... related directly to our line or march here...
this prayer-absolute thingee. I re-read "The Hidden Work" before this workshop
and it's pretty sweeping -- downright overwhelming sometimes. But i'm always looking for
"how can i use this?". So the question how do we use or perform Prayer Absolute
in our ordinary lives? Which also opens the question: what is Prayer Absolute? |
gordita: |
Hmm... hidden prayer. |
ga: |
Maybe, related to what we were saying, being in the moment with someone without
our dogma might be a start? |
eric: |
Something we do for the Absolute... |
davidc: |
OK, right, like why does the Absolute need us? How can being with someone do
that? |
gordita: |
Alleviate suffering... |
eric: |
Somehow the prayer, performed by awakened three centered being, helps......
helping higher than ourselves, somehow.... |
cy: |
How do we alleviate the suffering of the Absolute? What do we need to do? |
gordita: |
Nursing people you can make them more comfortable, stop pain, etc. more into the
present, but what I notice is, the suffering doesn't ease, until you are really there.
Right there, where they are, with them. Takes attention; takes time; takes effort. Way
beyond comfort. |
davidc: |
I work with this idea of "bringing the world alive" -- it's part of how
i understand alleviating the Absolute's suffering -- so putting attention on someone,
being with them while they're facing the Absolute -- that's great! Nursing is a great line
of work! I use this eccentric thing to build a little center of life which
people respond to even with little props. i wear an assortment of hats to my workspace --
even customers and tradeshows -- it's kind of a signpost -- "something might be
different here..." |

Unprompted, my acting students have begun calling me their labyrinth guide. we
work with speaking from the Being through their characters... the work disguised behind
the thin veil of acting. |
megan: |
The work comes thru by how we act, treat others, not by description... |
davidc: |
So it's hidden in how we act, how we relate to the world. Anymore
"how it hid the work in my life and lived to tell it?" stories? |
gordita: |
The Gnosis letters, which expressed "fear of being conned" so well; EJ
has said that you build in lots of reasons people can reject you. So if they stick it's
for a strong reason. This helps protect the work and work technology from dabblers and the
self-serving. |
can: |
Grant, you are a fairly public figure...any tales crom the crypt? |
ga: |
I was thinking about working fairs, and when we were showing the bardo video at a
fair and I was grandly elucidating all the fine points of the bardo, etc., and one guy
just went into a tirade, and it was a real learning experience. So now we just let the
videos play in the background. Any one who is interested, we will talk to just to
describe... |
tm: |
Just ask judy if you want the real scoop. Grant and i both endangered our jobs
last time we hosted Pat workshop. |
gordita: |
Yep. Beings who don't want to wake up, play rough. |
can: |
ga, were you done? |
ga: |
yeah, but the value of street work cant be underestimated |
davidc: |
And our jobs are part of our "street work" |
megan: |
It's back to being there, rather than describing |
gordita: |
"real emotions are not communicated by words" |
davidc: |
i think we're going to have to wrap this up soon... so last call for
contributions here... |
cy: |
Well, although i'm not "teaching" the Work to my acting students, I
think I've planted some interesting seeds for them to ponder some day. |
davidc: |
When i visit with my nephews and nieces as the crazy uncle -- the one they can
talk to -- we never talk about the work, but its always there, especially in the jokes.
It's always amazing how much you can say if people think you're just joking and being
weird. You can actually tell the truth as you see it, and watch who's listening and move
on... |
cy: |
Yes, one young woman about 20 asked me after class "what do you
really mean when you say speak from your Being". I told my understanding and she went
off to think i guess. |
